The Day a Horse Spoke to Me

Speaking to animals has always come naturally to me, but there are still times when my animal communication abilities amaze me.

One day in particular always comes back to me.

It was the day a horse spoke to me.

I realized my true gift of speaking to animals on a cold and rainy January day.

I was standing in a barn with my friend Charlene, holding her Percheron mare. Valkyrie was a gorgeous horse, with a lot of attitude and a big personality.

Charlene is famous for her ability to heal bodies using neuromuscular bodywork with animals and people. And today, she was working on releasing a huge muscle knot wound the size of my fist on Valkyrie’s left hip.

Charlene had no idea how it got there, but it was painful and sore. It had been that way for months and wasn’t shifting no matter what she tried.

And Valkyrie was a bit grumpy and depressed about it all.

As she worked, we discussed the problems that one of Charlene’s dogs Beau (she raised German Shepherds at the time), was getting into, who I had only briefly met when I arrived at the barn that day.

All of a sudden – and to my astonishment…

I heard Valkyrie’s voice in my head clear as a bell.

Valkyrie said, “That crazy dog thinks he’s the boss and is very hardheaded, determined, and opinionated. He thinks he’s smarter than you!”

My eyes wide, I said to Charlene, “You may think I’m crazy, but Valkyrie just told me that Beau thinks he’s the boss and that he’s hardheaded and opinionated, and he’s smarter than you!”

Charlene looked at me and replied, “Well. that makes sense.”

She thought for a moment and then asked me what Valkyrie thought she should do about it.

Using her Boss Mare confidence, Valkyrie told Charlene (through me) exactly what to do to solve the behavior problems Beau was acting out.

Charlene got a sparkle in her eye and a lift in her spirits as she called Beau over to her. She did what Valkyrie told her, and before you know it, Beau was doing precisely what Charlene wanted him to do and when she asked. Problem solved, easy as that!

We turned back to Valkyrie and thanked her for the help. She nodded her head and nudged Charlene.

So when Charlene went back to work on her hip, she wanted me to ask Valkyrie what happened to her hip. I did and proceeded to have my mind blown even more!

Valkyrie showed me what happened to her hip.

Valkyrie took me inside her memories, and showed me what happened. It was like watching a 3D movie.

She was in a dusty area. I could smell the hot caliche dirt and feel the heat of the sun beating down. It was high summer in San Antonio, Texas. Several men were trying to load her into a trailer.

She didn’t like the men, and she didn’t want to get on that trailer.

Angry, Valkyrie lashed out at them. In her head, she was screaming, “No! Not now, not ever, go away and leave me alone!” In the commotion, she managed to bang into a metal gate on her left hind side, which is where the injury came from.

At that point in the story, Valkyrie’s head came down, and her whole body relaxed. As bodyworkers often say, “The issues are in the tissues” because…

Right before our eyes, the knot on her hip melted away as she told her story and released it.

It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever witnessed in all the years I’ve been speaking to animals. I’ll never forget it.

Valkyrie had finally gotten a chance to have what happened to her heard and respected. She shared something that troubled her. She felt understood, and then she was able to release the pain of it and heal.

I thought to myself, how many other animals in pain have been trying to be heard, respected, understood?

How many times have I struggled, trying to be heard, respected, and understood?

That day with Valkyrie was a turning point in my life and career.

That was in 1993, and it was the turning point in my life’s story and journey.

Here’s the thing that most people don’t know about learning animal communication.

Speaking to animals teaches us how to better communicate with people too, and that process is a spiritual healing journey to become your best self.

I want ALL animal lovers to know how to communicate with animals and understand that animal communication can help us change our relationships with animals – and the people around us.

Someday soon, I hope people will look back on this time in history and feel sadness and amazement that humans could ever have acted so badly towards animals. They’ll feel astonished that we didn’t know how to communicate with the sentient, living world around us, the beings who share our planet.

Communicating and speaking to animals will become commonplace, an intuitive gift that everyone accesses and uses for the good.

Can you imagine a world like that? That’s the world I want to live in.

I believe animals are angels, teachers, guides, and healers. They are gifts on loan to us from God.

They are in your life for a reason. Like you, they have a purpose.
