Is there a Real Dr Doolittle? Yes, there is! Welcome to Animal Forensic Investigator Laurel Neme on this episode!
I want to teach you what I know so you can learn how to talk to your animals, why it’s important to hear your animals viewpoints and how reconnecting with animals makes you a better human.
Reconnecting with animals helps us be better humans, and is an exciting journey into Self, the nature and reality of our world, a behind-the-scenes look at the complex interactions between us all.
Any animal lover can learn how to communicate with animals, you can too! Learn how to connect at the heart for a magical bonding experience with your animals.
Today I’m speaking with Laurel Neme, Author of “ANIMAL INVESTIGATORS: How the World’s First Wildlife Forensics Lab is Solving Crimes and Saving Endangered Species.
Laurel Neme has camped in the Kalahari, investigated walrus carcasses on Alaska’s Bering Sea beaches, and gotten lost in the Amazon jungle with the Brazilian Federal Police. She works with Interpol’s Wildlife Crime Working Group, the St. Louis Zoo, the American Museum of Natural History along with various universities.
She has more than a decade of experience as a consultant working in over a dozen African countries, where she’s been feted with chickens by villagers and shared stories with rangers on the frontlines of wildlife poaching. She consults on wildlife and natural resource management and serves as a Fellow at the University of Vermont’s Institute for Environmental Diplomacy and Security.
And, she is the author of a wonderful book called ANIMAL INVESTIGATORS: How the World’s First Wildlife Forensics Lab is Solving Crimes and Saving Endangered Species. It has a wonderful foreword by Richard Leakey, Has been endorsed by Jane Goodall and many others.
It is a “CSI for wildlife” that has been featured on ABC News Nightline, C-SPAN, and NPR’s Science Friday. She also hosts “The WildLife,” a weekly radio show that explores the mysteries of the animal world through interviews with scientists and other wildlife investigators.
She also reports for Earth Negotiations Bulletin, where she covers the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
Perhaps because she holds a Master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan and a PhD in public and international affairs from Princeton University, she has a special place in her heart for wolverines and tigers (listen to find out why!).
You will learn:
* The Real Animal CSI – how wildlife forensics is helping to save endangered species and the big business of wildlife trafficking.
* What you can do on a daily basis to help the Earth’s animals and ecosystems.
* Why should you should care about wildlife trafficking – and what you can do to help. You’ll be surprised at what you could be doing in your everyday life that contributes to wildlife trafficking.
* How wildlife forensics differs from human forensics.
* How a forensic lab works.
