Becoming Extraordinary: Reach Outside Your Comfort Zone
This article was previously published October 13, 2011, and was updated on October 8, 2023.
In last week’s ezine, I shared that it’s okay to start projects that you don’t feel totally ready for. Â Stretching ourselves to reach outside your comfort zone is critically important to our growth and journey. Â If you believe you have a mission and purpose on the planet, please know that it is not served well by playing small.
I consider myself an agent of change, and because you’re in my world, I know you are also.
You may not know this, but I was absolutely terrified to reach out and try to interview celebrities but I did it anyway.
I didn’t have any idea what I was doing. Â But I had a dream, a vision, and a hope that I could do it.
Nobody gave me permission. I didn’t receive an invitation. Honestly, I was terrified to put myself out there. I felt like a beginning trapeze artist working without a safety net.
I woke up one morning with the idea burning inside me, I took a deep breath, and I bravely decided not to wait until I was ready. Almost dizzy with nerves, I made the choice to do it anyway. Â I took the next step and picked up the phone.
It worked!
To date, I’ve interviewed almost 60 celebrities! It’s been an amazing and wonderful experience, and is opening doors for me that I would have never have been there if I hadn’t gathered the courage to try.
The Real Dr Doolittle Show has had almost 100,000 hits/downloads, and I get emails almost every day from listeners telling me what a difference listening to the Show made for them.
That would never have happened if I’d waited until I was ready, or felt comfortable or 100% prepared.
What is your soul’s work? What makes you afraid, maybe even terrified, but is something you know you want to do with your whole heart?
If part of your soul’s work is learning how to hear your animal’s voices, and you haven’t yet acted on your heart’s desire, then don’t wait for another opportunity to get started. Â Do it before you’re ready.
Your animal’s life is ticking away, and yours is too how much longer will you wait before they can tell you what is weighing on their heart?
If I could give you one gift, it would be this:
Follow your heart’s passion and guidance, and start things before you’re ready.
Remember that your ego mind can’t help you in the matter of starting that which your heart knows is your path. It’s very good at coming up with countless reasons, excuses and doubts about why you shouldn’t do something.
Did you know that your resistance to doing your soul’s work is actually a signal that you are on the right path?
My guest this week on The Real Dr Doolittle Show is Robby Hartley and Thelma the Guide Dog. Â He had a dream and was guided to help disabled people live better lives through the magic of Therapy and Guide Dogs. His and Thelma’s story will touch your heart and help you see the gift our animals truly are.
Wishing you and your furrkids much love,
Val
Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. The reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. ~ Steve Jobs, Wired Magazine, 1996
